Weeee!

Friday, May 30th, 2008

Today we took Cavan out for a walk to a trail we hadn’t ever tried before.  He really enjoys his walks, but this one was especially fun because we came across a park.  I sat with him on a swing for awhile, he thought that was pretty cool - but the real fun began when I put him in the infant swing and we let him swing by himself.  He absolutely loved it!  Of course we didn’t have the camera handy, but he was smiling and laughing and having a really good time!  We’re definitely going to have to bring the camera next time we go there.  After the swings we slid him down the slide a few times, which he thought was okay.  Then I decided I would climb the play-set with him and we’d go down the big spiral slide together.  He wasn’t sure what to think of that, his eyes got really wide and I think he was trying to figure out where he was and what we were doing.

We’re starting a bedtime routine tonight - Cavan has been getting tired around 8pm every night so we’re making that his bedtime.  Bedtime is a horrible ordeal right now and it consists of us laying him down when he’s drowsy or asleep, him sleeping for 10 minutes before realizing he’s alone, and then him tomato-faced screaming for 30 minutes before he falls back asleep.  We’re hoping that by setting up a routine so he knows that bedtime is getting closer we can get him to go to bed without all the screaming.  We’re going to try the Bath, Bottle, Book, Bed method - except replace the bath with bedtime lotion and pajamas because bath time is super fun time for him and will just get him all excited!

I also got a job, so starting June 9 I won’t be home with him all day - I don’t know how I’m going to handle that!  As silly as it is, I miss him when he goes to bed for the night, how am I going to handle not seeing him all day?  It helps to know he’ll be home with Daddy and not in daycare or with strangers, but it’ll still be difficult to leave him for the day!

Party Time!

Sunday, May 25th, 2008

We all went out to North Branch for a party with my family, it was a baby shower for my cousin Bobby’s wife and a going away party for my cousin Keith who is going into the military.  Cavan got to meet a lot of my family for the first time, and he was quite a hit.  He behaved really well even when the fireworks were going off, I thought for sure the noise would send him into a fit.

He got to see Grandpa Watson, the last time he saw my father was two months ago or so when we went out to Muskegon to visit.  He got to see his favorite Aunt Amy, and even took a nap with my aunt (his great aunt) Kelly when the party pootered him out.

I’m surprised by how well he did, almost all of my family was there, plus some family friends - that’s a lot of people and noise.  He was really interested in everyone and wanted to be looking around at all times and then sat quietly for the car ride home.  I think he had a good time!

First Laugh!

Monday, May 19th, 2008

Today Cavan gave us his first laugh.  He smiles a lot and coos and “happy talks” but until this afternoon we hadn’t gotten an all out “hahaha” laugh.

I was singing Old MacDonald’s Farm to him and I decided he had a pond with a snapping turtle in it.  The snapping turtle made hissing sounds, and Cavan thought that was the absolute funniest thing ever.  Later on I went back to the Snapping Turtle and he started laughing again.  So, I guess from now on, Old MacDonald has a Pond with a Snapping Turtle in it, with a “hiss hiss” here and a “hiss hiss” there, here a “hiss” there a “hiss” everywhere a “hiss hiss.”

Oh Boy!

We have a Mommy’s boy on our hands!  For the last couple weeks Cavan has decided that he wants my attention ALL THE TIME.  When I’m in the office working on my computer he sits behind me in his swing and yells (like baby babbles, but yelling) until I turn around and look at him.  As soon as I look at him, he stops yelling and smiles at me, I turn around again and the yelling starts back up.  Shannon thinks this is the funniest thing ever.  At this very moment Shannon is playing with Cavan on the floor behind me, but Cavan keeps looking over at me to see if I’m paying attention to him.  He’s so darn cute I can’t be annoyed, but I’m starting to wonder if I will ever be able to use my computer again without being cussed out in baby-talk.

I can tell that when he learns to call me I’m going to hear “MOMMA!  MOMMA!  MOMMA!” until I look, and then he’ll likely just smile and say “Hi.”  The boy knows what he wants and he knows how to get it!

Unhappy Cavan

Because you asked for more pictures… and because Becky wanted a picture of him in his over-aww-ls. Unfortunately, he wasn’t interested in posing for the camera just then. I’d have some other pictures, but the camera battery died while we were out walking today. Not too bad considering I haven’t charged it since January.

Here we go a-visiting!

Sunday, May 11th, 2008

Cavan rolled over for the first time Saturday morning!  From tummy to back, and now that he’s figured out how to do this we can kiss tummy time goodbye - instead of crying about it, he can just flip himself over.  (video to come)

Saturday was an exciting day for Cavan!  He went to visit Great Grammy Snider for a barbeque, then went to visit Aunties Amy and Kelly and Uncle Jason and cousins Hailey, William, and Christian.  He also got to meet Great Grammy Watson for the first time!

Auntie Amy gave him a swing that he absolutely loves, and I almost felt bad taking him home!  He loves his Auntie Amy more than anyone else (aside from Mommy and Daddy!) and was snuggled up on her shoulder with her shirt wadded up in his hands.  I wish we lived closer - he definitely really likes my sister even though he doesn’t see her very often.

Cavan also got some puppy kisses, which he thought were very funny.

For my first Mother’s day Cavan got me a card, let me sleep in until 9, and told Daddy to make me pancakes!  We’re also going to go to the nature center for a Mother’s Day event.

And - because Auntie Jen requested it, Cavan is now 16 pounds 3 ounces and 25 inches long.  He’s wearing 3-6 month clothing, and sometimes even 6 month clothing.  He sure is getting to be a big boy!

3 Months

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

Cavan is now 3 months old!  This morning he discovered how to make a hard “oh!” sound and occupied himself by adding it to his normal chatter.  He’s always so happy in the mornings and will sit and “talk” to me for about an hour before he gets bored of it.

He has also gotten quite grabby lately, so we bought him a teddy bear blanket thing and he loves his “Benny Bear.”  He’s also started holding onto his rattle.  He’s beginning to reach out, but I wouldn’t say he’s had his first “true reach” yet.  His arms are still pretty uncooperative, though he’s an expert at grabbing my finger and shoving it into his mouth!

We’re still waiting for a complete roll over, but that’s not supposed to happen for awhile still.  I think he’s close though, since if he’s on his back he frequently flips to his side.  Tummy time is his least favorite time, and I admit he doesn’t get as much as he should because I feel like I’m torturing him.  I suppose it doesn’t help that he screams and cries and pukes when he’s on his tum…

Also, Cavan has officially outgrown 90% of his clothes.  It’s now that we’re really feeling the impact of not having a washer and dryer, if we don’t go to the laundry-mat once a week he’s out of clothes.  We need to buy him some more clothing sometime soon, hopefully I’ll get the job I interviewed for last week.

Next month Cavan will start baby cereal - that should be interesting!  He watches us eat and seems to be fascinated by it, they say that’s a sign that he’s ready to start trying things but we’re going to wait until his 4 month pediatrician appointment on June 9, which means you’ll likely see a video shortly after that!
